The 6-0, 210-pound Dixon was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the seventh round (248th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft out of Baylor. He was signed to the Vikings practice squad last week after being waived by Dallas at the end of the preseason.
Collegiately, Dixon registered 288 tackles, four interceptions, 12 pass break-ups in 50 appearances (38 starts) at Baylor (2010-13). As a senior he was named a second-team Associated Press All-American and a consensus first-team All-Big 12 selection after finishing second on Baylor with 81 tackles, one interception, six pass break-ups, one forced fumble, a fumble recovery, two tackles for losses and a blocked PAT.
Hurst made his first NFL appearance this past Sunday, playing on special teams, after spending the entire 2013 season on the Bears practice squad.
