He’s a great back, so it’s all the things we’ve been working on, setting the edge, proper fits. It doesn’t change week to week, it’s still working to do things we’ve talked about since training camp. We’ll have to be at our best Sunday to get that done.
AARON RODGERS, WHAT MAKES HIM SO SPECIAL?
He’s certainly unique. He’s different than the guys that we’ve from the standpoint that he’s got all the throws. Sideline to sideline, he can use outside lines. He just has tremendous accuracy, tremendous quickness releasing the football. Plus he’s got the ability to extend plays. He’s extremely and unusually athletic. He has the mobility to go right or left and throw with great accuracy. So once again, whether it’s any of the three that we’ve played or Aaron, it’s still about trying to keep them in the pocket and stop the run as much as you can to keep him in the pocket, level the rush and make sure he can’t get outside to extend plays. It really doesn’t change much week to week.
It’s still about trying to keep them in the pocket, stop the run as much as you can to keep them in the pocket, level the rush, and make sure he can’t get outside to extend plays. It really doesn’t change week to week, but certainly we’re dealing with tremendous experience, tremendous and unique quarterback athleticism with his ability to quickly release the ball, see the field and use the entire field to his liking. And then he has very good receivers who are great at catching the ball and making contested catches with people hanging on them.
Right now what we’re talking about – it’s a fair question, Jeff – but right now, as an organization, he’s not practicing obviously this week and he’ll be week to week.
OUT FOR SUNDAY?
WHAT DID BOSTIC SHOW MONDAY NIGHT?
Very good. Very good to the football. Obviously we’d love him to catch that ball there at the end of the game, but other than that, I thought he took on blocks at the line of scrimmage, at the point, he fit the run and ran to the ball. Really, I thought played well and used his athleticism and his physicality to really help our football team. I thought he did well.
CAN YOU BUILD ON FORTE’S POSITIVE RUNS LATE IN THE GAME?
I think so. We played two very unique defenses and run defenses the last couple weeks. What you say is true, though – it was critically important that we were able to get something out of the running game late to use some of the clock. We were able to do that; we got a couple of inside runs and a perimeter run, like you said, that really helps us. Hopefully we’re going to be able to do a little bit more in the run game – it won’t be easy – but the two defenses that we played were very difficult run defenses, and historically have been, and we’ve seen that in their first three games as well. We gotta work at it – it’s not going to come easy – but it’s something we’ve got to work at throughout the couple days that we can practice.
DOES IT WORRY YOU TO GET PACKERS WITH THEIR BACKS TO THE WALL?
I don’t know that we worry. We feel that each and every week we’re going to get a team’s best shot. That’s what you’d expect. We’ve got a lot of tremendous respect for the guys on their football team, the coaches on their football team and we’re trying to get better ourselves. The only thing we can control certainly is taking care of ourselves, our emotions, creating our own edge, getting ourselves ready to play at our best, with the expectations that the guys in their locker room are just like us and are going to be doing the same thing.
LOT OF CONVERSATION AROUND THE LEAGUE ABOUT MORE INJURIES? DOES IT FEEL THAT WAY TO YOU?
I can’t comment on that. I know what we have. We have injuries on our football team. And they’ve come on both sides of the ball. How that relates to the league, I really can’t answer that. Everything we do as we prepare through training camp, all season, is to try do everything we can to keep our players safe. I don’t know the statistical makeup of what has caused the injuries on our team or what has caused injuries throughout the league.
WILL GARZA AND SLAUSON PLAY?
Right now I would say they’re day-to-day. I’m not optimistic, quite frankly. But it is possible they could be ready to go on Thursday and Friday at practice. But it’s day-to-day and we’ll stay with the injury report on that.
