Bears make roster moves

LAKE FOREST, IL - The Chicago Bears waived linebacker Donta Jones, kicker Vitaly Pisetsky, and tackle Chris Brown today and placed safety Frankie Smith on injured reserve.

The Bears also claimed Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Uhuru Hamiter and tackle Stan Bennett off waivers.

The Bears roster is now at 73, including four NFL Europe exemptions. The four exempt players are wide receiver Ahmad Merritt, linebacker Jim Emanuel, cornerback Todd McMillon and guard/center Brad Williams. NFL Europe exemptions expire Sept. 2.

The Bears must trim the roster to 65 by Tuesday, August 28. The following Sunday, Sept. 2, each NFL team must narrow its roster to 53 by 4:00 PM EST.

On Monday, Sept. 3, a five-man practice squad may be established after 4:00 PM EST. To be eligible for the practice squad, a player must not have an accrued season towards free agency. If a player does have an accrued season, he still is eligible for the practice squad if he was not on the active or inactive list for more than nine regular-season games.
