Bears waive Santonio Holmes

The Chicago Bears have terminated the contract of vested veteran receiver Santonio Holmes, while also making changes to the practice squad.

LAKE FOREST, IL – The Chicago Bears signed WR Rashad Lawrence to the practice squad, waived vested veteran WR Santonio Holmes and terminated the practice squad contract LB Terrell Manning.

Lawrence entered the NFL this season as an undrafted rookie free agent with Washington out of Northwestern. Collegiately, the 6-1, 190-pound Orlando, Fla. native hauled in 96 receptions for 1,165 yards and two touchdowns in 51 games (30 starts) over four seasons (2010-13) with the Wildcats.

This season for the Bears, Holmes had eight receptions for 67 yards (8.4) adding nine punt returns for 50 yards (5.6 ypr).The Super Bowl XLIII MVP has hauled in 389 receptions for 6,030 yards (15.5 ypc) and 36 touchdowns over nine NFL seasons with the Steelers (2006-09), Jets (2010-13) and Bears (2014). He has added 75 punt returns for 586 yards (8.1 ypr) and a touchdown, 18 kickoff returns for 436 yards (24.2 ypr) and 16 carries for 89 yards (5.6 ypc).

Manning appeared in three games for the Bears this season and nine contests during his three-year NFL career.
