Bears place Willie Young on IR

The Chicago Bears have placed defensive end Willie Young on injured reserve due to an Achilles injury and signed Austen Lane.

LAKE FOREST, IL – The Chicago Bears signed DE Austen Lane and placed DE Willie Young on the reserve/injured list due to an Achilles injury.

Lane has appeared in 30 games with 17 starts over four seasons with Jacksonville (2010-12) and Detroit (2013), collecting 64 tackles, three sacks, four tackles for losses, one forced fumble and 13 QB hurries. The 6-6, 265-pound Iola, Wisc. native was signed by the Bears this offseason but was released at the end of the preseason. He originally entered the NFL as a fifth round selection (153rd overall) of the Jaguars in 2010 out of Murray State.

In 2014 Young set a career-high with 10 sacks, which currently paces the Bears and is tied-for-13th in the NFL and tied-for-sixth in the NFC. Young has appeared in 15 games with eight starts this season, recording 55 tackles – including 10 sacks and three additional TFLs - his first career forced fumble, three pass break-ups and 13 quarterback pressures. Young also added a blocked field goal on special teams for Chicago this season.

The five-year NFL veteran has totaled 127 tackles, 16 sacks, 10 pass break-ups, 14 tackles for losses, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries in 63 career games, including 23 starts, with the Detroit Lions (2010-13) and Bears.
