According to multiple reports, the Chicago Bears have signed former Washington Redskins defensive end Jarvis Jenkins to a one-year contract. The deal has not yet been finalized due to a pending physical.
The former Clemson Tiger played three seasons in Washington, accumulating 75 total tackles and 2.0 sacks. The 2011 second-round pick missed his entire rookie year with a torn ACL suffered in the preseason.
Jarvis (6-4, 315) fills a big need for the Bears. The current roster is void of pure 5-technique defensive ends, which is Jarvis’ ideal position. He’s a big-bodied space eater who can fill gaps and occupy blockers on running downs.
He doesn’t offer much as a pass rusher but Jarvis will have plenty of value on first and second down.
