The Bears have elevated quarterback David Fales to the 53-man roster

The Chicago Bears have elevated quarterback David Fales from the practice squad to the active roster and have waived cornerback Bryce Callahan.

LAKE FOREST, IL — The Chicago Bears elevated Dave Fales to the 53-man roster from the practice squad, signed CB Demontre Hurst and WR Deonte Thompson to the practice squad, waived CB Bryce Callahan and terminated the practice squad contract of WR Emughedi “Ify” Umodu.

Fales was drafted by the Bears in the sixth round (183rd overall) in the 2014 NFL Draft. Collegiately, over two seasons at San Jose State (2012-13), Fales started all 25 contests connecting on 639-of-938 passing attempts (68.1 percent) for 8,382 yards, 66 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. He left San Jose State owning the two top passing seasons in school history (4,193 yards in 2012 and 4,189 in 2013), the single-season school record for touchdown passes (33 in both 2012 and 2013) and the top two marks for completions (327 in 2012 and 312 in 2013). 

Hurst has appeared in 16 contests with two starts over two seasons (2014-15) with the Bears, gathering 36 defensive tackles, one interception and one forced fumble while adding nine special teams stops. He spent his entire 2013 rookie season on the Bears practice squad as an undrafted rookie out of Oklahoma.

Thompson has appeared in 14 games over three seasons with Baltimore (2012-13) and Buffalo (2014), grabbing 15 receptions for 147 yards (9.8 ypc) with 22 kickoff returns for 590 yards (26.8 ypr).

Callahan appeared in the first two games of the 2015 for Chicago as an undrafted rookie out of Rice.

Umodu was an undrafted rookie out of Northern Arizona.
