Chicago Bears wide recevier Eddie Royal (ankle) missed his second straight practice today and his status for Sunday's contest against the Kansas City Chiefs is up in the air. If he doesn't practice tomorrow, it would be very surprising to see him suit up this weekend.
G Patrick Omameh, who filled in at left guard last week and could again start there this week if healthy, was also held out of practice for the second day in a row due to an ankle injury. Yet head coach John Fox said Omameh has not yet been ruled out.
“Obviously he’s in the meetings. He’s going through all the preparations," Fox said. "We have not ruled him out by any stretch of the imagination. He’s day-to-day. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.”
If Omameh can't play, Hroniss Grasu will likely get the start at either center or left guard. Grasu was pushed around by third-string players in the preseason, yet Fox isn't concerned.
“I think he’s athletic. He gets to the second level. He’s smart. He’s played in a winning program. We like a lot of his football character."
Also out today were CB Sherrick McManis (hamstring), S Antrel Rolle (ankle) and LT Jermon Bushrod (concussion/shoulder).
Limited for the Bears were WR Alshon Jeffery (hamstring), QB Jay Cutler (hamstring), DL Jeremiah Ratliff (ankle), DL Will Sutton (elbow), ILB Shea McClellin (elbow), CB Alan Ball (groin), P Patrick O'Donnell (knee) and RT Kyle Long (back/ankle).
Ratliff said today he's been dealing with a high ankle sprain suffered in the presason and that he'll be ready to go on Sunday.
