LAKE FOREST, IL — The Chicago Bears signed TE Rob Housler, placed TE Martellus Bennett on the reserve/injured list due to a ribs injury, signed QB Matt Blanchard to the practice squad and terminated the practice squad contract of QB Justin Worley. The Bears also announced that T Tayo Fabuluje has been removed from the reserve/suspended by the commissioner list but the team currently has a roster exemption for him.
Housler has appeared in 61 games with 27 starts over five seasons with Arizona (2011-14) and Cleveland (2015), collecting 106 receptions for 1,139 yards (10.7 ypr) and one touchdown. Listed at 6-5, 250-pounds, Housler originally entered the NFL as a third round selection (69th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft by Arizona out of Florida Atlantic University.
Bennett is in his ninth NFL season and third with the Bears, collecting 348 receptions for 3,586 yards (10.3 ypr) and 23 touchdowns in 119 contests including 88 starts with Dallas (2008-11), the N.Y. Giants (2012) and Chicago (2013-15). In three seasons with Chicago, Bennett has appeared in 43 games (41 starts), collecting 208 catches, 2,114 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.
Blanchard entered the NFL with the Bears in 2012 as an undrafted free agent out of Wisconsin-Whitewater. The Lake Zurich native spent a majority the 2012 season on the Bears practice squad and the 2013 preseason with the team. He has also spent time with the Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts.
