Chicago Bears re-sign outside linebacker Sam Acho to a one-year deal

The Chicago Bears have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with veteran outside linebacker Sam Acho.

The Chicago Bears today have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outside linebacker Sam Acho.

Acho is entering his sixth NFL season and his second straight with the Bears. He signed a one-year deal last off-season and served as a rotational defender in coordinator Vic Fangio's defense during the 2015 season.

Acho did not record a sack last year but had a strong campaign against opposing rushing attacks. He's also a solid locker-room presence and a willing contributor on special teams.

From the official press release:

Acho has started 39-of-66 career games over five seasons with the Arizona Cardinals (2011-14) and Chicago Bears (2015), producing 172 tackles, 13 sacks, 19 tackles for losses, three interceptions, nine pass breakups, eight forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries (two on defense and one of his own teammate’s on special teams). The University of Texas product has also collected 22 tackles on special teams. In one postseason contests with the Cardinals, Acho registered seven tackles, including a strip-sack that was recovered by Arizona’s defense.

Acho wrapped up his first season in Chicago in 2015, posting 60 tackles (fifth most on the team), three tackles for losses, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup in 15 contests with seven starts. He also contributed eight special teams stops which ranked fourth most on the team. Acho originally signed with the Bears on April 1, 2015 but was released prior to the club’s first regular season game. He re-signed with Chicago on September 14, 2015.å
