Chicago Bears G Kyle Long may need surgery on ankle

The Chicago Bears believe it's "possible" that Pro Bowl G Kyle Long will need surgery on his right ankle.

Chicago Bears G Kyle Long was placed on IR yesterday due to an ankle injury suffered in Sunday's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He'll miss the remainder of the season.

Head coach John Fox said today that Long may need surgery.

"Don’t know that yet. That’s a possibility," he said.

Despite the injury happening three days ago, Fox said he doesn't have specifics on the severity of the injury. When asked if Long's ankle was fractured, Fox replied, "I haven’t gotten all the exacts other than it was serious enough to put him on IR."

Long was injured in the second quarter after his right leg was rolled up on at the end of a run play. He was carted off the field but not before banging the side of the cart and screaming at his teammates to score.

WR Alshon Jeffery has been suspended for the next four games, meaning the offense will be without its top two players for the next month.

Despite these significant losses to a 2-7 team, Fox said no one will be throwing in the towel.

"I don’t believe so," he said. "I think weaker-minded people possibly. We have played a lot of games around here without both those guys so it’s not a new adventure."
