The Chicago Bears secondary may soon receive a boost, as CB Kyle Fuller is eligible to be activated off IR this week.
Fuller had a knee scope during training camp and was placed on Injured Reserve on Sept. 27. He's been on IR the past eight weeks and could begin practicing as early as Wednesday.
“He’ll be a guy we’ll evaluate," head coach John Fox said today. "He’s a guy we will look at on Wednesday when we come back to practice and we will evaluate that going forward."
Chicago's secondary has been banged up all season, with Bryce Callahan missing time with a hamstring injury, Tracy Porter nursing a lingering knee injury and Cre'Von LeBlance currently in the concussion protocol. Fuller's return could alleviate some of the team's concerns at cornerback.
“He’s eligible to practice," said Fox. "He’s been doing rehab and exercises and what-not and we’ll evaluate that Wednesday.”
The prognosis for rookie OLB Leonard Floyd, who left yesterday's contest on a stretcher after colliding with teammate Akiem Hicks, is very positive.
"Much better," Fox said. "Obviously it was a scary situation. I think anytime you see any kind of a head or neck injury, it’s concerning. He was able to make it back on the team charter. It was a lot of hard work by a lot of people to make that happen. Right now I think the real serious injuries are not there. I think he’s got some neck soreness. He’s in the concussion protocol. The real serious stuff is behind him."
He's not seriously hurt but Floyd's status for this week is still uncertain.
"It’s a little bit too early to say. We were just very, very happy and relieved it wasn’t anything career-threatening or very serious. We’re happy about that."
With Fuller on the verge of returning, Fox said it's unlikely that Kevin White, who was placed on IR on Oct. 5, will be back this season.
“Your eligible-to-return thing, you only get to do that once," said Fox. "If we did it with Kyle Fuller, we could not do that with Kevin White.”
Fox also said G Kyle Long, who was placed on IR last week, will have surgery on his ankle this upcoming Monday, Nov. 28. He said surgery on Long's shoulder, if necessary, will be in the "distant future."
