The Chicago Bears have placed wide receiver Eddie Royal on Injured Reserve due to a toe injury.
"We are going to place Eddie Royal on injured reserve," head coach John Fox said today. "We're not making any corresponding roster moves at this time."
Royal played nine games for the Bears this year, catching 33 passes for 360 yards and 2 TDs. He also returned 19 punts for 166 yards (8.7 average), including a 65-yard TD return.
"Even with his limited playing time I think he was still in the Top 15 in third-down receptions as well as punt returns," Fox said. "So we definitely could have used him had he been healthy and it's unfortunate that he's not."
Royal is the 19th Bears player to be placed on IR this season. The Bears now have more than $65 million in salary on IR, by far the most in the NFL.
Royal was signed last off-season to a three-year, $15 million contract, with his first two years fully guaranteed at $10 million. He has only played 18 games the past two seasons in Chicago and there is no guaranteed money left on his contract, meaning Royal may have played his last game for the Bears.null
