While Brooks Barnard didn't appear in a game for the Bears this season he could be their punter next year.

Along with giving Brooks Barnard a two-year extension, the Bears signed seven players to free agent contracts Tuesday.

Barnard, who could a cheaper solution at punter than Brad Maynard, is heading to NFL Europe where he'll not only work on his punting but kickoff skills. Meaning he could also takeover that role from Paul Edinger.

The Bears signed WR Andre Forde, WR Aaron Boone, and the five members of the Bears practice squad, TE Mark Anelli, RB Dwone Hicks, DT Israel Idonije, LB Marcus Reese and DE Cliff Washburn.

Forde, a 5-10, 207 pounder out of the University of Buffalo was claimed by the Bears July 26 after signing with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent (5/5) before being released (7/25). Forde was released by the Bears prior to the 65-man cutdown date (8/19).

Boone, a 6-2, 204 pounder out of Kentucky, was signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent and was waived (8/23). Boone played two season for the Wildcats after transferring from Snow College (junior college) in Utah. He ranked third in UK history with 16 career receiving touchdowns including 10 during his senior campaign.
