Thomas Named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month

Chicago Bears running back Anthony Thomas was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month by the League today.

In October, Thomas had back-to-back 100+ rushing performances highlighted by a 188-yard effort at Cincinnati, breaking a 67-year-old Bears rookie record set by Beattie Feathers who rushed for 155 yards versus Green Bay in 1934. The Michigan product followed-up the Cincinnati output with 127 yards (27 carries) and a touchdown the following week versus San Francisco. Thomas scored his third touchdown of the season in the contest and p unched in the game tying two-point conversion with only 0:26 seconds left in regular. In route to 430 yards in the month of October, Thomas recorded runs of 46, 32, 23 and 21 yards.

Thomas leads all NFC rookie backs with 439 yards (74 carries) and three touchdowns and ranks second in the League behind San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinson's total of 620 yards (168 carries). All but nine of his rushing yards have come in the month of October and his totals include only two starts; one where he never had a rushing attempt (vs MN) and the other in last weekend's contest versus San Francisco. Thomas' 5.9 yard rushing average is tops among all NFL players with 50 or more rushing attempts.
