Bears allocate 7 players to NFL Europe

The Bears allocated seven players to participate in the upcoming NFL Europe season set to kickoff on Saturday, April 3.

Three of Chicago's allocated players finished the 2003 season on the team's practice squad. DT Israel Idonije has been assigned to the Berlin Thunder, LB Marcus Reese to the Cologne Centurions and DE Cliff Washburn to the Amsterdam Admirals, while P Brooks Barnard finished the season on the 53-man roster but will not be assigned a team until the conclusion of the NFL Europe kicking camp in Tampa on Thursday, March 4.

Amsterdam will claim half the assigned Bears playing in NFL Europe this summer as Washburn will be joined on the Admirals roster by WR Andre Forde and LB Jerry Schumacher.

Forde, who signed with the team as a free agent on Dec. 30, 2003, was previously claimed by the Bears July 26, 2003 after signing with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent (5/5/03) before being released (7/25/03). He was released by the Bears prior to the 65-man cutdown date (8/19/03).

Schumacher, who went to training camp with the Bears last year as an undrafted free agent, was signed to a Reserve/Futures contract Jan. 19. In three preseason games with the Bears in 2003 he was credited with one fumble recovery.

WR Aaron Boone, a 6-2, 204 pounder out of Kentucky, will join Idonije on the Berlin roster. Boone was signed by the Bears on Dec. 30, 2003, following a training camp stint with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted in 2003.

Training camp for all allocated NFL Europe players will begin with position players reporting to camp on March 1 in Tampa, Fla., and will conclude March 21.
