Opportunity knocks

The Bears will hold their third mini-camp of the year starting Friday, but it will be the a great chance for the six undrafted free agents the team signed Monday to make an impression

The chances of an undrafted free agent making the 53-man roster are slim. The only undrafted free agent that made accomplished the feat last year was safety Cameron Worrell out of Fresno State.

This year there will be stiff competition, but making the practice squad could be a springboard. Center Josh Warner bounced around from the practice squad and the active roster. He'll have a chance to compete with Terrence Metcalf for the right to backup Olin Kreutz.

Linebacker Jerry Schumacher went to training camp last year as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois. He didn't make the team, but is currently in NFL Europe and will go to camp Bourbonnais looking to win a roster spot.

The six players that will get a chance to play in the NFL are:

Rob Droege Tackle 6-6 300 Missouri
Sam Aiello T 6-5 307 Iowa
Jeremy Cain LB 6-2 234 Massachusetts
Alain Kashama DE 6-5 256 Michigan
Derrick Ballard S 6-2 205 Memphis
Josh Minkins CB 5-10 185 Louisville
