LAKE FOREST, IL — The Chicago Bears are scheduled to open their first training camp under Lovie Smith on Wednesday, July 28.

Players are due to report to Olivet Nazarene University by midnight Tuesday with practice beginning the next morning. The Bears will not practice on August 8th and 13th and will break from Bourbonnais on the 18th. A detailed practice schedule will be released at a later date.

The Bears will travel to Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill. for three days of practice and a scrimmage against the St. Louis Rams, August 5-7.

"Training camp is an important step in our season and there is not a better set-up in the NFL than what we have at Olivet Nazarene University," said Lovie Smith. "It's a fan friendly environment and the facilities are outstanding.

"We're also excited about traveling to Macomb, Ill. this year and bringing Bears football to our fans on the west side of the state. The key to making a scrimmage work is having a comfort level with the opponent's staff, and we have that with the Rams. We hold similar practices and will benefit from working together for three days."

The Bears will continue to work at Halas Hall in May and June. Aside from mini-camps NFL teams are limited to 14 workouts. So in what most clubs call passing clinics, Smith has organized team activities that will take the Bears into mid June.
