Surprise Move

LAKE FOREST - In somewhat of a surprise move the Bears waived Leon Joe today in order to make room for linebacker Corey Jenkins.

Joe was a fourth-round pick in Aprils' draft out of Maryland. He made his NFL debut on Sunday at Soldier Field, playing on special teams against Detroit.

He didn't have an impressive training camp, but at six-foot-1, 235 pounds was an athletic linebacker that was drafted specifically for playing in Lovie Smith's speed oriented defense.

Jenkins, a second-year player out of South Carolina, was claimed off waivers from Miami. Jenkins must pass a physical before officially joining the team.

Jenkins was inactive for Miami's season-opening loss to Tennessee last Saturday. The former sixth-round pick of the Dolphins in 2003 played all 16 games in a reserve role, making two tackles on defense and three on special teams.
