Scoring Summary: Redskins 13-Bears 10

Chicago - While the Bears put ten points on the board, only three came from the offense.

FIRST QUARTER: K Ola Kimrin 41-yard field goal at 5:41. The Bears second straight three and out coupled with a 37-yard punt by Brad Maynard gave the Redskins the ball just shy of midfield. Clinton Portis carried four times for 18 yards on the possession. Mark Brunell found Laveranues Coles for 11 yards to convert a third and nine. Kimrin, who was signed the day before the game after John Hall pulled a groin muscle in practice, put Washington on the board. Drive: 8 plays, 30 yards in 3:16. Redskins 3, Bears 0.

SECOND QUARTER: WR Rod Gardner 19-yard touchdown reception from QB Mark Brunell at 14:53. The Redskins kept the Bears defense off balance with four rushes and four passes on possession. Brunell completed a 21-yard pass to Coles to move across midfield. Portis caught an 11-yard pass followed by a 19-yard run that put Washington inside the red zone. On the touchdown pass, Brunell had enough time in the pocket to let Gardner break away from R.W. McQuarters. Drive 8, 79 yards in 4:11. Redskins 10, Bears 0.

SECOND QUARTER: CB Jerry Azumah 70-yard interception return for a touchdown at 5:36. Trailing 10-0 with the Redskins on the march again, the Bears needed a big play and got one from the defense. Alex Brown got high enough to deflect a Brunell pass that Jerry Azumah picked off and went the other way. Nathan Vasher didn't throw a crushing block, but got in the way of would be tacklers to let Azumah sprint down the sideline for the score. Drive: 1 play, 70 yards. Redskins 10, Bears 7.

FOURTH QUARTER: Kimrin 26-yard field goal at 11:13. Clinton Portis' 22-yard run turned into a 37-yard gain because of a 15-yard personal foul on Brian Urlacher for pulling the running back down by the facemask. Brunell evaded the Bears' pass rush on third and nine and scrambled for 10 yards. The Redskins decided to kick the field goal on fourth and one from inside the 10. Drive: 9 plays, 73 yards in 4:43. Redskins 13, Bears 7.

FOURTH QUARTER: K Paul Edinger 46-yard field goal by Paul Edinger at 5:10. The Bears turned to Thomas Jones to move the ball for the first time all day. He touched the ball 7 times for 27 yards and also drew a 12-yard pass interference penalty. The Bears had only ran one play in Washington territory until Jones' 14-yard reception moved the ball past midfield. A seven-yard rush on 2nd and 6 gave the Bears another first down. Shawn Springs bumped into Jones on a pass from Quinn, which put the ball at the 25. From there the offense sputtered, consecutive negative plays forced the Bears to settle for Edinger's 100th career field goal. Drive: 10 plays, 46 yards in 6:03. Redskins 13, Bears 10.
