Newkirk Placed on Injured Reserve

Robert Newkirk was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury ending his season.

Newkirk had a partial lateral menisectomy (11/16) after injuring his knee in practice in November (11/15).

He returned to the lineup for Games 11 and 12 after a two week recovery, but has spent the last two weeks on the inactive list.

Newkirk finished the season with 13 tackles and one sack.

Taking his spot is wide receiver Ahmad Merritt who was signed from the practice squad to the active roster today.

Merritt has spent the past two seasons on the Bears practice squad and played for the Berlin Thunder last spring in NFL Europe.
