Money Man

Jerry Angelo talked about finding someone to help him with cap concerns as recent as last week. The search didn't last long as the Bears hired Cliff Stein earlier this week.

Stein, who will officially join the team Feb. 25 as director of player contracts and legal affairs, has been an agent since 1995. Stein is leaving his law practice to serve as the Bears' lead negotiator as well as a legal advisor to the team.

Stein will replace Director of Business Operations Jim Miller, who left the team late last month to become a college professor. Stein, a certified contract advisor with the NFL Players Association since 1994, comes to the Bears from the law firm Colton & Stein, P.C. in Voorhees, NJ, where, as a partner, he specialized in sports law and the representation of professional athletes.

In his previous capacity as an NFL agent, Stein performed all salary and endorsement contract negotiations and handled arbitrations, grievances, appeals and workers compensation claims. Prior to joining the team, he represented current Bears players Carl Powell, Eric Johnson and Henry Burris.
