Bears Still Without Benson

Lake Forest - Receivers coach Daryl Drake spent three years at Texas with Cedric Benson, but is trying his best to stay out the rookie's contract dispute with the Bears.

"Yeah it surprises me but I understand it's a business and I try not to get into it," Drake said. "I'd like him to be here for selfish reasons because I'm for the Bears and I wish he was here right now. But he's got to do what he's got to do. But at the same time I wish he'd go and get this thing resolved and get on in here."

Wednesday marks the 31st day that Benson has missed since the team began practicing in Bourbonnais. The two sides are not actively negotiating and GM Jerry Angelo may be on the verge of pulling money off the table.

Comings & Goings
Safety Bobby Gray has been placed on the waived/injured list. A knee injury against the Colts ended his season. He will be placed on Injured Reserve sometime next week.

The move opened up a spot on the roster for cornerback Marvin Ward, who was claimed off waivers from the Buffalo Bills

Ward was signed by the Bills as an undrafted free agent out of Northwestern where he was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection as a senior.

Still Competing
Terrence Metcalf has taken the bulk of the practice reps with the first team offense at right guard. While Metcalf will start for the fourth straight preseason game, Roberto Garza will get a chance to work with the first string o-line against the Bills. the move would have occurred vs. Indianapolis, if not for Olin Kreutz's illness, which forced Garza into a starting role at center.

Injury Update
Rod Wilson (knee) and Rob Droege both missed their second consecutive day of practice, but are expected to return on Wednesday.
