Scoring Summary: Bears 13, Buccaneers 10

The Bears didn't light up the scoreboard in Tampa Bay, but TE John Gilmore's touchdown reception proved to be enough to get a victory behind a strong defensive performance.

FIRST QUARTER: TE John Gilmore 1-yard touchdown reception from QB Kyle Orton at 11:50. The defense set up an easy score thanks to an Alex Brown sack and a forced fumble of QB Chris Simms. On first down the Bears used play action to find Gilmore wide open for his first catch of the season. PAT by Robbie Gould was good. Drive: 1 play, 1 yard in 0:06. Bears 7, Buccaneers 0.

K Matt Bryant 27-yard field goal at 2:20. The Bucs started with good field position and it took just one big play to get them in field goal range. On third down and five WR Joey Galloway beat CB Charles Tillman and FS Chris Harris deep for a 39-yard completion. The Bears held Tampa inside the red zone. Drive: 7 plays, 46 yards in 4:24. Bears 7, Buccaneers 3.

SECOND QUARTER: K Robbie Gould 25-yard field goal at 0:17. Before the end of the half the Bears were able to extend their lead thanks to a three and out by the defense that gave the ball back to offense in Tampa territory. Three straight completions by Orton for 25 yards gave Gould a chip shot. Drive: 9 plays, 39 yards in 1:10. Bears 10, Buccaneers 3.

THIRD QUARTER: Gould 36-yard field at 3:47. The offense put together their best drive of the day behind the play of Thomas Jones. The running back busted a 19-yard run on 2nd and 16. Three plays later he took a screen pass 41 yards thanks to the blocks of Ruben Brown and Olin Kreutz. Adrian Peterson gave Jones and a breather and picked up nine yards on two carries, but Jones failed to gain on third and one. Drive: 9 plays, 65 yards in 5:26. Bears 13, Buccaneers 3.

FOURTH QUARTER: FB Mike Alstott 2-yard touchdown run at 7:00. Starting at midfield the Buccaneers mixed the run and pass to get to the end zone. Chris Simms completed 4-of-5 for 24 yards, while the ground game accounted for 26 yards on six attempts. A missed tackle by SS Mike Brown allowed TE Alex Smith to pickup a first down. The touchdown was the first surrendered by the Chicago defense in 38 possessions. PAT by Bryant was good. Drive: 11 plays, 50 yards in 6:28.
