Scoring Summary: Panthers 29, Bears 21

The Bears aren't built to win a shootout, but that's the type of game they found themselves in with the Panthers. The defense gave up a season high 29 points at home, while the offense reached 20 points for just the fifth time all year.

FIRST QUARTER: WR Steve Smith 58-yard touchdown pass from QB Jake Delhomme. A 35-yard kick return by Jamal Robertson gave Carolina great field position. CB Charles Tillman fell down trying to cover Smith and Delhomme made the easy toss to him down field. S Mike Brown had a chance to stop Smith around the 10, but the receiver made a juke move for the score. PAT by John Kasay was good. Drive: 2 plays, 60 yards in 0:55. Panthers 7, Bears 0.

SECOND QUARTER: John Kasay 20-yard field goal at 14:57. A bad bounce on a Brad Maynard punt once again gave Carolina good field position. Another big connection by Delhomme and Smith led to a field goal. Tillman and Smith both went up for a jump ball and the receiver was ruled to have possession for a 46-yard reception that gave the Panthers first and goal at the 2. Chicago kept Carolina out of the end zone thanks to the run defense of DT Tommie Harris. Drive: 10 plays, 62 yards in 4:01. Panthers 10, Bears 0.

Kasay 38-yard field goal at 6:26. Maynard continued to struggle with his punts and gave the Panthers the ball near midfield. The Panthers used the running game to extend their lead. RB DeShaun Foster picked up 24 yards on 3 carries. Drive: 8 plays, 40 yards in 4:26. Panthers 13, Bears 0.

RB Adrian Peterson 1-yard touchdown run at 1:57. The Bears got going after a defensive holding call on DT Brentson Buckner. Rex Grossman hit on 5 of 6 passes for 61 yards. Lovie Smith decided to go for the touchdown on 4th and goal and Peterson got in the end zone on second effort. PAT by Robbie Gould was good. Drive: 9 plays, 67 yards in 4:29. Panthers 13, Bears 7.

Kasay 37-yard field goal to end the half. The Panthers regained momentum heading into the locker room by tacking on three points. The Panthers seemed content to run out the clock, but Smith decided to use the Bears final two timeouts in an attempt to get the ball back. An offside penalty on Tank Johnson caused everyone to hesitate except for Delhomme, who hit Smith for a first down. The quarterback completed 5 of 6 passes on the drive for 58 yards and got Kasay in position for the field goal. Drive: 8 plays, 51 yards in 1:57 Panthers 16, Bears 7.

THIRD QUARTER: TE Desmond Clark 1-yard touchdown pass from QB Rex Grossman at 11:21. RB Thomas Jones ripped off 31 yards on his first three carries, including a 24-yard cutback, to open the third quarter. From there, Grossman went to WR Bernard Berrian twice for gains of 12 and 17 yards. PAT by Gould was good. Drive: 8 plays, 68 yards in 3:39. Panthers 16, Bears 14.

Smith 39-yard TD reception from Delhomme at 2:07. Smith converted a third and 9 with a 21-yard reception over the middle. After a catch by Robertson resulted in a 10-yard loss, Smith ended up with one-on-one coverage with reserve CB Chris Thompson and took advantage of the situation. Thompson fell down on the coverage and Smith ended up with his second easy touchdown. PAT by Kasay was good. Drive: 5 plays, 56 yards in 3:24. Panthers 23, Bears 14.

FOURTH QUARTER: FB Jason McKie 3-yard touchdown run at 12:23. Grossman hit both of his passes for 42 yards, including a 24-yard completion to Justin Gage to move the chains on second and 17. The running game continued to produce in the second half. Jones picked up 17 yards on four carries, but would have given the ball back to Carolina on a fumble that went out of the end zone for a touchback if not for a facemask penalty on the Panthers. McKie scored his first rushing touchdown of his career following the flag. PAT by Gould was good. Drive: 11 plays, 66 yards in 4:44. Panthers 23, Bears 21.

TE Kris Mangum 1-yard touchdown reception from Delhomme at 8:04. The Panthers quickly answered the Bears touchdown with a score of their own. Smith burned Bears for a 22-yard gain on a reverse. Consecutive carries by RB Nick Goings yielded 18 yards to set up first and goal. Delhomme hit Mangum on a play-action pass for his third touchdown of the day. PAT by Kasay was no good. Drive: 7 plays, 62 yards in 4:18. Panthers 29, Bears 21.
