Preseason Starts on the West Coast

The Bears will open their 87th season with a road trip to San Francisco to face the 49ers.

The game will take place between Aug. 10-14, with exact dates and times will be announced at a later date.

The following week the Bears will host a nationally televised game on CBS on Friday, August 18 against the San Diego Chargers. The Bears will then host the Arizona Cardinals (Aug. 24-27) before finishing their preseason by traveling to play the Cleveland Browns (Aug. 31-2).

The Bears 2006 preseason schedule features multiple games against NFC opponents for just the second time in nine years, the last time being 2004.

Chicago defeated San Francisco, 20-13, in a preseason game at Soldier Field last Aug. 21. The Bears have not played San Diego in the preseason since 1989, a 24-7 win by the Chargers at Soldier Field on Aug. 19. Chicago and Arizona will square-off in the preseason for the third time in the last six years, the last time being a 27-17 Cardinals win at Sun Devil Stadium on Aug. 23, 2004. The Bears and Browns will be closing their respective preseason schedules for the third of a four-year home-and-home series, which has seen Cleveland win the first two meetings.
