Roster Move

The Bears tweaked their roster Tuesday afternoon signing offensive tackle David Sherrod and waiving three other players.

Sherrod originally signed with Oakland as an undrafted free agent but did not pass the Raiders' physical due to a shoulder injury. The 6-6, 305-pound tackle played collegiately at Eastern Washington.

The Bears roster was trimmed to 89 players after waiving safety Leo Barnes, guard Stan Bennett and wide receiver Willie Spencer.

Barnes, Bennett and Spencer each played in NFL Europe during the off-season. Barnes and Bennett each signed with the Bears at the start of the 2002 free agency period (1/9) while Spencer was signed to Chicago's practice squad on Dec. 28, his second stint on the Bears practice squad. He was originally signed to the Bears practice squad on Nov. 28 and released Dec. 12. Both Spencer and Barnes failed their physicals with the Bears.

With eight NFL Europe exemptions, the roster must be trimmed to 88 by the start of training camp July 26.
