The clock is ticking

The first round of roster cuts is August 27 meaning the last chance for borderline players to impress coaches is Friday night against Jacksonville.

Head coach Dick Jauron said time is running out for young players.

"Some step up and some step back and there's not a lot of room for anybody to step back anymore because the deadline is coming and they know it."

A player that did step forward is wideout Kenny Christian, who expects to make more catches in jump-ball situations like his 52-yarder against St. Louis.

"I usually have good concentration and good balance going after the deep ball," he said.

Head coach Dick Jauron said the receiver's stock went up with the two catches including the game winning 15-yard TD grab against the Rams.

"Those are two huge plays in the football game. Kenny's got to keep progressing do the little things, but he's a talented guy," Jauron said. He's got the size and speed we like and he's a tough guy, so he's definitely got a chance."

ROSTER MOVE: LAKE FOREST, IL - The Chicago Bears waived-injured punter Steve Fitts Wednesday. Fitts, an undrafted college free agent out of Illinois, had four punts for 157 yards (40.5 yards per punt average) with a long of 48 yards against Denver. He suffered a sprained his right knee punting in that contest and has been sidelined for the past two weeks.
