Down to 53

The Bears didn't have many difficult decisions in getting to the mandatory 53-man roster by Sunday. The majority of the players waived have little NFL experience and have never played a regular season game for the Bears.

However, Karon Riley was a fourth-round pick by Chicago in 2000. The defensive end never made the transition from pass rush specialist in college to be a special teams contributor at the NFL level.

The free agent acquisition of Keith McKenzie and the selection of Alex Brown in the fourth-round of April's draft made Riley expendable.

Waivers: TE Luther Broughton, C Luke Butkus, WR Kenny Christian, DB Travis Coleman, T Damion Cook, DT Curry Dawson, DT Reggie Grimes, LB Tim Johnson, QB Kenny Mastrole, RB Eric McCoo, S Than Merrill, WR Ramondo North, DE Karon Riley, WR Edell Shepherd, LB Mawuko Tugbenyoh, DT Dave Volk, T Josh Warner, DT Jason Wiltz.
