On the Mend

Jim Miller participated fully in Wednesday's practice and is turning his attention away from his healing and toward the season opener against Minnesota.

"People tend to make things a little bit bigger than what it is," Miller said. "I'm not the only guy that's a little dinged up. That's just the nature of the business. Even once you get something right, something else hurts. That's normally how it goes, but that's just part of it.

"I'll be fine and everybody on our team will be fine. We've just got to focus and prepare."

Head coach Dick Jauron backed his quarterback's readiness for action.

"I thought he moved really well," Jauron said. "We kept him out until (Wednesday) for that reason. I didn't see anything that indicated that he favored it at all."

Injury Report: Dick Jauron said the only player that sat out of Wednesday's practice were Ahmad Merritt, who will be out for sometime with a broken hand.

DT Christian Peter participated in individual drills and is questionable for Sunday as he recovers from surgery to repair a fractured right thumb.

"He'll be back to practice (Thursday) and we'll see where that goes," Jauron said.

Right guard Chris Villarrial is also listed as questionable with a healing broken thumb, but was able to practice Wednesday and is expected to start against Minnesota.

Soup's on: Several Bears participated in the Campbell's Chunky/NFL Tackling Hunger program Wednesday at Halas Hall.

Ted Washington (43 cases), James "Big Cat" Williams (37), Keith Traylor (36), Brian Urlacher (27), Rosevelt Colvin (26) and Warrick Holdman (25) were weighed on a giant soupspoon scale, with Campbell's Chunky donating 10 times their weight in soup cans to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

The donation, which will be rounded up from 9,360 to 10,000 cans, will go to the Greater Chicago Food Depository within the next few weeks.
