"It's cool (to win) you know it's an honor, but the main thing is we get the win," Urlacher said. "That's really the only thing that matters to me."
The honor is Urlacher's third weekly award after being named both Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week last season. Incidently, he won the 2001weekly defensive honor following his performance in a 31-3 win over the Falcons. The 6-4, 254 pounder recorded a team-high 13 tackles in the Bears 14-13 win over the Falcons in Atlanta (9/15) including two tackles for losses, two quarterback sacks and a fumble recovery. Both of Urlacher's sacks came in the fourth quarter as Chicago clung to a one-point lead.
Urlacher, the 2000 Defensive Rookie of the Year, was also named NFC Defensive Rookie of the Month in October of that same season.
The Bears won the weekly honor four times last season, once on offense (Shane Matthews vs. SF 10/28), twice on defense (Urlacher vs. ATL 10/7, Mike Brown vs. CLE 11/4) and once on special teams (Urlacher at WAS 12/23).
