They Said It: Bears Postgame

Although the Midway Monsters displayed their depth in Monday night's comeback victory over the Colts, the first-string offense did not play particularly well. Rex Grossman had trouble finding the handle on the football, and Cedric Benson was not productive at all. Lovie Smith and several Bears players addressed the media after the game, and BearReport.com was there to hear what they had to say.

Head coach Lovie Smith
On his overall impression of Monday night's win in Indy:
"Anytime they keep score you want to win, so we feel good about that. We had a few mistakes in the first half that you need to eliminate, like quarterback-center exchanges. We should be beyond that, but it happens from time to time. We lost a fumble on a sack that they were able to get. But Rex [Grossman] threw the ball well when we were able to get the ball, which was good. We did some good things early, but the turnovers really hurt us offensively. Defensively, we came out and stopped them on that goal line stand early. And we liked what some of our younger players did in the game, especially. This was another chance to evaluate some of our players. We got some good video. We put them in some tough situations, and we'll go from there."

QB Rex Grossman
On why he was having so much trouble getting the snap from center:
"The crowd noise caused a little problem with the cadence, and I pulled out when I said ‘hut.' But the second one was some sweat on my wrist, which I guess is going to happen, but it's something we'll fix and it won't be a problem. It hadn't happened at all in training camp, and it won't be a problem in the regular season."

On how much he expected to play heading into the ballgame:
"I was expecting to play a half. That was kind of my mindset going into the game."

On if he was extra motivated to play the Colts again after the Super Bowl:
"How can you not? But this is still just a preseason game, and it was a quarter and a half at that. So it was not your typical football game. In the back of your mind, you want to get back at them a little bit. But they're a good football team, and hopefully we'll see them in Phoenix."

WR Devin Hester
On if the offense is more comfortable for him now than last week:
"We are comfortable. The more time we put in there, the more comfortable we are. We are just trying to find the situation we are most comfortable in."

On tripping in the open field when he should have scored on a punt return:
"It is what the preseason is for. We are trying to get a feel for each other, and things happen."

C Olin Kreutz
On Rex Grossman fumbling the snap from center a few times:
"It is a concern. We have to be sure it does not happen again. I won't know exactly what the problem was until I see the film. My point of view is I did not get it back far enough."

RB Cedric Benson
On comparing this week's preseason game to last week's preseason game:
"We just wanted this week to be better than last week. For the most part, it was challenging. We moved the ball well. Hopefully, we'll get even better next week."
