Bears Make More Roster Moves

The Monsters of the Midway made a few roster moves ahead of their Week 3 showdown with the Dallas Cowboys, a matchup many experts believe could be a preview to the NFC championship game come January.

Per the Chicago Bears:

LAKE FOREST, IL — The Chicago Bears signed P Dirk Johnson to their 53-man roster, released CB Ade Jimoh, signed WR David Ball to the practice squad, and terminated the practice squad contract of S Josh Gattis. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Johnson was signed by the Bears last week and registered four punts for 199 yards (49.8 gross average) against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 2.

Ball signed with the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of the University of New Hampshire and spent the entire preseason with the team and first two weeks of the regular season on Chicago's practice squad.

JC's Take: Brad Maynard was able to practice on a limited basis this week as he comes back from a groin injury, but it appears that he still won't be able to go Sunday against the Cowboys. Johnson punted very well in Week 2, averaging 49.8 yards on four attempts and dropping one inside the 20-yard line before getting banged up himself in the second half. Ball had been a disappointment after signing as an unrestricted free agent out of New Hampshire, but Gattis must have really been overvalued heading into this past April's draft. He interviewed with the Bears at the NFL Combine in February before being selected in the fifth round by Jacksonville. However, the Jaguars released him after the preseason, and then Gattis only lasted a week or so in the Windy City.
