Roster Move

A roster spot opened when Rex Tucker was placed on Injured Reserve. The Bears signed tackle Steve Edwards to a two-year contract. Terms of Edwards' deal were not disclosed.

Edwards, a 6-5, 350 pounder out of Central Florida, was an undrafted free agent and participated in the Philadelphia Eagles training camp where he was waived (9/1) then signed (9/3) to the five-member practice squad. Edwards is a Chicago native and was a freshman on the 1994 Mt. Carmel HS squad led by Eagles QB Donovan McNabb. He helped lead the Caravan to the 1996 state championship.

Rex Tucker, who had started the last 22 games for the Bears at left guard (including playoffs), dislocated his left ankle and fractured his fibula in the third quarter of Monday night's loss to the Packers.

Tucker's surgery went as planned on Tuesday, and his rehab is expected to take 4-5 months. Jauron said there was no concern that the injury is career threatening.

"It went exactly like they thought it would and hoped it would," Jauron said. "Nobody previous to the surgery had indicated this was an extraordinary injury. We're optimistic that he'll be back early next summer, hopefully even by mini-camp."
