This season is not what any of the rookies had anticipated coming on to this team. We hoped that we would be able to get some playing time now and then. Usually that's about as good as it gets during that first year. Instead, we have to step up now. That's never easy but I think that we can handle it.
I think that what has happened this year will have a big effect when we are second year players next season. We will have had a lot more experience than most of our peers. Our time on the field during a game will have been much greater. That's the way you learn. I think that ultimately, we will be much better players because of it.
R.W. McQuarters and Jerry Azumah have been great in helping me along. There are there with advice when I need it. I also learn by watching other NFL games on TV. The veterans have a lot of good moves. If I want to be effective in the secondary, I need to pay attention to what these players are accomplishing in their positions. That's how I get my mental reps.
The Monday Night game was a disheartening experience for the team, that's for sure. For me personally, I appreciated the chance to get my feet wet during a national telecast. I got the chance to show what I can do. That's a big boost to my confidence, which is a very important thing for any rookie to have.
I think that there is a definite improvement on the part of the defense from week to week, We are getting into our rhythm and moving things along. The frustrating part is that we are getting close to where we want to be but we're definitely not there yet. Everybody is playing all out, but so far we aren't getting the job done.
We've been watching the Detroit films this week and I think we have a pretty good idea what they are going to do against us. We all want to break this losing streak. Nobody wants to set that kind of a club record. We're planning to play hard and come out on top this week.
