Bears go Big

Although, other players in the league are four bills Gibson was the first to admit it when was listed as 410 pounds in the Dallas Cowboys media guide.

Gibson, a 6-6, 410-pounder out of Wisconsin, spent the 2002 training camp with the Cowboys. He was active for the season opener at Houston and inactive in Week 2 versus Tennessee before being waived (10/4). He played in one game for the Cowboys in 2001 after signing midway through the season (10/31/01). Originally a first-round draft pick by Detroit in 1999 (27th overall), he spent his rookie season on Injured Reserve following surgery to his left shoulder to repair a dislocation suffered at the Lions' mini-camp. He started 10 games for Detroit in 2000 but was inactive during weeks 11-13 with a right shoulder injury, then placed on IR for the final three weeks of the season. Gibson returned to the starting lineup, starting five of six games, before being released by the Lions (10/30).

Colombo dislocated his patella against St. Louis (11/18) and underwent arthroscopic knee surgery last Friday (11/22) to clean out loose bodies resulting from the injury. He is expected to be ready to participate in the Bears' offseason workout program. The 6-7, 320-pounder out of Boston College was the Bears' first-round draft choice in 2002 (29th overall) and had started the last five games at left tackle, playing in 10 contests, prior to his injury.

Practice squad move
The Bears also signed to Chris Demaree the practice squad and waived Curry Dawson.

Demaree signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Kentucky following the 2002 draft and made the Chargers active roster, playing in two games (10/13 vs. KC, 10/20 at OAK) and was inactive for eight games before being waived (11/19).

Dawson was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Angelo State following the 2002 NFL Draft, was released Sept. 1 and signed to the practice squad Sept. 3. The 6-6, 280 pounder was released Oct. 15 and signed to his second stint on the Bears practice squad on Oct. 29.
