Player Diary

It's getting a little tiresome talking about another loss. We did our best in Miami, but things just didn't come together as we had hoped that they would. It's a tremendous disappointment to all of the team as you can imagine.

I did get two sacks, which is progress for me personally, but I wish that I had been able to do more to help us get a win. Miami has a good offense and they were difficult to contain. The weather was a factor, but only for brief periods during the game.

I enjoyed having the chance to talk to my family while we were in Florida. None of them came to the game, but we talked a lot on the phone. I know that hey were glad to get me back home, even for a little while. I'm looking forward to seeing them again during the off season. You can believe that I'm ready for some of that warm southern weather. Chicago's climate can be pretty tough if that's not what you're used to.

It's definitely a different feeling for most of the rookies as they are playing this year. Many of us were getting ready to go to a bowl game at this time last year. It's hard to realize that the season for us will last just a few more weeks, then it's time to go home.

I plan to take a little time off right after our season ends, then get right back in the weight room. In the NFL there really never is an off season. If you want to be successful at you position; you are working on things pretty much 12 months a year. Besides, what would I do with free time, fish? My life is football. I never want to be away from it for too long.

This first season in the NFL has been what I'd expected in some ways, and in other ways, it has been completely different. I knew what would be required physically but I hadn't realized just how hard it is to go full out from the beginning of training camp through December. I think that is something that every rookie struggles with. You have to keep you body in shape and your mind alert. This is often easier said than done.

I have enjoyed being around the veteran players. They have been supportive and they have been doing all that they can to get the newer players feeling comfortable within the Bears system. There has been a lot to learn. The playbook alone is larger than most college textbooks.

The veterans and the coaches have also been helping us to learn how to think on our feet during a game situation, how to make quick adjustments and how to use instinct in order to make the right play at the right time. Having football be second nature is so important. There are a lot of times during a game when you don't have time to think things through, you just react. If your reactions are right, you could get a big play. If they aren't, you'll get burned.

I think that all of us are eager to return here next year. We'll have the chance to improve upon what we were able to accomplish during this season, and go on from there. This is a good team, a strong team. We are supportive of each other. Going into this season, nobody could have anticipated all the injuries. We've worked through them as best as we could. It's been tough but I think that we will come back stronger and hungrier next season. Things have to get better. That's what we're all counting on.

The Jets are up next and their another difficult offense to face. We're watching the game films and working on the game plan right now. We're ready for a win. We need a win. Let's hope that we're here celebrating in the locker room next week.
