Terms of Warner's deal were not disclosed. Warner, a 6-5, 305 pounder out of SUNY-Brockport, joins the active roster after being a member of the Bears practice squad since Nov. 20. He originally signed with the Bears at the beginning of the free agency period following the 2001 season (1/9/02) and was released following training camp (9/1). Warner played for the Berlin Thunder during the 2002 NFL Europe season. Originally signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent (4/27/01), he was released following New York's training camp.

This will be Gaines' second stint on the Bears practice squad. He originally signed to the practice squad (12/3) and was later released (12/10) after being drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the seventh round (256th overall). The 49ers waived Gaines in training camp (8/26). Gaines, a 6-0, 175 pounder out of Tennessee, started 19 games for the Volunteers and finished his four-year career with 181 tackles, 18 passes defended, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Grice, who was claimed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers off the Bears practice squad last season (9/26/01), spent the majority of the 2001 season rotating between Tampa Bay's active roster and practice squad. The 6-1, 307 pounder out of Mississippi was inactive for games 2-7 and was released (11/10/01) before being signed to the Bucs practice squad (11/13). He ended the season on the Bucs active roster, signing (12/22) and making his NFL debut against New Orleans (12/23). Grice was inactive for the final three games of the season including Tampa Bay' playoff loss to Philadelphia. Originally signed by the Bucs as an undrafted free agent, he was waived by Tampa Bay during training camp (8/27) and signed to the Bears practice squad (8/31). Grice spent the 2002 training camp with the Bucs and was released (8/26).
