Burris bound for start

The Bears have one game left and there is no reason to put Chris Chandler in harms way against the Tampa Bay Bucs stout defense. Meaning the stage is set for Henry Burris to get his first NFL start.

Chandler was knocked out of the game against Carolina figuratively and literally. The quarterback wobbled off the field and didn't return with a concussion after a hit by Carolina defensive tackle Brentson Buckner. Chandler completed seven of his first eight passes.

It marked the third time in seven games Chandler left the game due to injury.

"You're always concerned for any player who gets hurt in the game, particularly with concussions," coach Dick Jauron said.

The Bears coaching staff has tried to shelter Burris from being put in a position he doesn't feel comfortable, which is on the football field at this point. However, with Jim Miller on Injured Reserve and Chandler status in doubt it's time for Burris whether he's ready or not.

Burris completed 8-22 passes for 50 yards and had two critical fumbles, but his struggles can't be completely put on his shoulders.

The offensive line struggled with line calls, which allowed the Panthers defense to stunt and use other line tricks to get to the quarterback.

Carolina sacked both Burris and Chandler twice.

The running game went nowhere, especially in the first half when the Bears totaled 10 yards rushing on 11 carries. Chicago finished with 55 yards rushing.
