Worth the risk

Despite a severe injury Miami running back Willis McGahee will leave school early to enter the NFL draft.

It's unclear what kind of interest McGahee will attract following reconstructive knee surgery to repair two torn in his left knee. He won't be able to workout for any teams before the draft, which is April 26-27. The sophomore suffered the injury in Miami's 31-24 double overtime loss to Ohio State in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.

Most assumed McGahee would return to Miami in order to rehab, but there are reports that he could recover in time to play next season.

However, any team selecting McGahee would have to consider putting him on Injured Reserve, so he doesn't do any further damage in an attempt to comeback too soon.

The Bears should consider taking McGahee at some point, possibly as soon as the third round.

The chances of McGahee completely regaining his game-breaker speed are unlikely, but he still would be faster than any back the team currently has on the roster.

McGahee also took out a $2.5 million insurance policy before the national championship game, but has decided not to collect in an attempt to turn pro.

McGahee set school records this season with 1,753 yards rushing and 28 touchdowns and was a first team All-American.
