Needing to trim their roster down to 75 by Sept. 1, the Monsters of the Midway said goodbye Monday to four players.
Although the Bears headed to Olivet Nazarene University with wide receiver arguably their biggest question mark for 2009, Broussard was never able to distinguish himself and spent the preseason getting garbage-time reps with the third stringers. McGee, who did some kicking and punting in Bourbonnais, was nothing more than an extra leg for training camp to make sure Robbie Gould and Brad Maynard, respectively, weren't overworked before the start of the regular season. With Patrick Mannelly battling a minor hip issue, Milan was an emergency long snapper but never stood a chance at beating out the 11-year veteran and special-teams captain.
General manager Jerry Angelo didn't have anything invested in the three players he waived, although he was forced to place a former first-day draft pick and defensive starter on the waived/injured list.
DT Dusty Dvoracek, a third rounder in the 2006 NFL Draft and atop the depth chart at nose tackle the last two Week 1s, tore his ACL in the second exhibition game against the Giants and will miss the 2009 season. Dvoracek spent his entire rookie year on injured reserve, played just one game in '07 before heading to IR and then managed to suit up only 12 times the following campaign until he was shelved yet again. After the schedule runs its course, the one-time Oklahoma Sooner will have been healthy enough to play just 13 of 64 games during his pro career.
Assuming he clears waivers, and all indications suggest he should since he is in the last year of his contract, Dvoracek will again be placed on injured reserve.
The Bears play their last preseason game Thursday night at Soldier Field against the Browns, and then they'll have until Sept. 5 to cut their roster down to the final 53.
