This past week I have been sticking to my training routine and working out with Chip Smith here at Competitive Edge Sports. It's getting very close to the time for NFL tryouts. In fact, I expect to hear about the exact dates, times, and places for those by the end of this week. I know that two will be held in the Chicago area during the month of March.
As these dates get nearer, I am concentrating on the factors that I think will be most important to the pro scouts. Lifting, endurance, and the 40 are what everybody will be looking at. Of these three, I'd say that the 40 is the most important thing. They want players who are fast.
I'm also concentrating on my weight. Sometimes it can be hard to put on pounds when you spend your day exercising. They have me drinking two protein shakes every day. I'm at around 240 right now. Another 5 pounds added to that would be fine.
It's also important right now to be sure that you get enough rest. I'm trying to get 8 hours of sleep every night and to relax on the weekends. I want to be both physically prepared and mentally relaxed before a tryout.
By this time next week, I should know where I'll be going and when I'll need to be there. Until then, it's back to the weight room.
