If the team can't reach an agreement with Stewart then turning to Blake for short-term relief seems to the next step. Signing Blake now would give the Bears a security blanket until they can make a run at Brian Griese after June 1st.
The other option could be to sign Blake and use the team's first round pick in April's draft to select a quarterback. Blake could play a season or two, while a young quarterback is groomed for the job.
The Bears and Green Bay Packers are rivals on the field, but could be competing for the same player in the draft.
THE ROSEY FRONT
Despite reports that Rosevelt Colvin was on the verge of signing with the Detroit Lions, at this point no agreement has been reached. Colvin continues to make the rounds visiting with the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday and is headed to Jacksonville for a meeting the Jaguars Friday.
RIVALRY LIVES ON
Green Bay owns the 29th pick in the first round and they're considering using the choice to select QB Kyle Boller out of Cal. The Bears are considering using their second round choice (35 overall) on Boller, but unless they trade up into the late first round they might have to find another option.
