Jets interested in renown QB coach David Lee

Searching for answers for their struggling gunslinger, the Jets think they can strike gold with renown quarterbacks coach David Lee.

This past week the New York Jets were exploring options to replace their recently fired quarterbacks coach Matt Cavanaugh. The Jets are leaning towards appointing the experienced David Lee to take over the job. Last season Lee was a part of the Buffalo Bills coaching staff, but was fired at the end of the season along with the rest of the coaching staff.

Rex Ryan has adopted a similar approach to the Bills. Most of his staff will not be returning including offensive coordinator Tony Sparano and defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. The Bills signed Pettine last week and the Jets are hoping to make an even coaching swap by acquiring Lee.

Lee is famous for his three year stint as quarterbacks coach for the Miami Dolphins. Lee and then head coach Sparano brought the Wildcat offense to Miami and eventually this offensive formation became popular throughout the NFL.

Lee has spent a majority of his coaching career in the college ranks toeing the sidelines at Mississippi, Arkansas, Rice, and Vanderbilt.

Lee began his NFL coaching career with the Dallas Cowboys in 2003. Since then Lee has served as quarterbacks coach for the Dolphins and Bills.

The Jets will need better production from their starting quarterback during the 2013 season. The organization hopes the new quarterback coach will be able to revamp Mark Sanchez's career. The Jets have not made the playoffs the past two seasons and a lot of blame has been directed at the quarterback play. Sanchez had 26 turnovers during the 2012 season and 18 of them came by the way of interceptions.

The Jets need a leader from the quarterback position. Ryan made Sanchez a captain of the team before the 2011 season in hopes of seeing some leadership from the fourth year gunslinger. Sanchez looked nervous and unsure in the pocket this season, but the Jets still feel he is capable of leading the team to the playoffs.

By signing Lee and rebuilding a new coaching staff Gang Green aims to revive Sanchez's career and cement the Jets as viable playoff contenders next season.
