The Bengals came within 35 yards of having six players with 500 total yards from scrimmage in 2015. By comparison, they had four players with at least 500 total yards from scrimmage in 2014.
Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Green, in a bit of a surprise, led the way last season with 1,297 yards from scrimmage, all receiving.
Running back Giovani Bernard was right behind Green with 1,202 yards from scrimmage, fashioned by 730 rushing and 472 receiving.
Green and Bernard were the only Bengals surpassing 1,000 yards from scrimmage. Cincinnati had three players with more than a grand in 2014.
The missing piece was running back Jeremy Hill, who slumped off last season's team-leading 1,339 yards as a rookie, to 873 in 2015. That's a drop of 466 yards from scrimmage, or an average of nearly 30 per game.
Receiver Mohamed Sanu's yardage total fell by 376 yards.
By contrast, receiver Marvin Jones and tight end Tyler Eifert combined to increase their yardage totals over 2014 by 1,427 yards. Jones missed all of 2014 with foot and ankle injuries; Eifert missed all but one quarter with elbow and shoulder woes.
Here are the Bengals' leaders in yards from scrimmage in 2015, with 2014 totals in parenthesis:
