Rumor Mill: Is Lynch On The Trading Block?

Oh how things change in Buffalo. With the new regime in place, is it time to move on without one of Buffalo's best players on a roster in need of talent? Trade rumors persist on one of the Bills' top players.

The rumor mill keeps churning out RB Marshawn Lynch's name, particularly after he made a surprise start last Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.

Green Bay and this week's opponent, New England, are teams in need of running back help. The Patriots, who traded former first-round pick Laurence Maroney to Denver last week, lost versatile veteran Kevin Faulk for the season with an ACL injury in a loss to the Jets on Sunday.

Were the Bills giving Lynch, who ran hard with 64 yards on 17 carries, a trade audition by starting him against Green Bay? Coach Chan Gailey insisted no. He said Lynch, Fred Jackson or rookie C.J. Spiller could start any given game depending on what the opponent shows him.

"That all depends on the packages that we deal with," Gailey said when asked if Lynch would start this week. "We're trying to develop packages for each of our guys and it depends on which packages we go with."

Gailey and GM Buddy Nix like the insurance that three good running backs provide against injuries. But can a team as weak as the Bills afford it?

Lynch said he's oblivious to trade rumors.

"If it's going to happen, then it's going to happen," he said. "What will I be able to do about it? If they say you've got to go, what am I going to say? Tell them no? If they say I'm going to stay, well I'm here, and they say I'm not going anywhere, then come on let's continue to build on this thing and let's get better."

Meanwhile, it appears that Roscoe Parrish has replaced Steve Johnson as the team's No. 2 receiver for this week when the team uses two-wide sets. When it goes three-wide, Parrish will move into the slot and Johnson will play outside opposite Lee Evans. Johnson had two drops against Green Bay last week.
