Sammy Watkins Played Through Broken Ribs

Many assumed that Sammy Watkins' slow start was due to having EJ Manuel at quarterback. The real reason may have been broken ribs according to Jason La Canfora.

Sammy Watkins’ productivity as of late has been off the charts. Many assumed that Watkins’ lack of yards in the first four weeks of the season was due to E.J. Manuel at quarterback. Jason La Canfora revealed that a serious rib injury may have been the real reason that Watkins’ production was limited:

Buffalo Bills receiver Sammy Watkins could put on a strong push in the second half for rookie of the year honors, especially now that he's feeling much better in recent weeks after playing the early part of the season with broken ribs, according to league sources.

Watkins has played through the rib injury, though it did hold him back at times. His ascent in recent weeks has been at least in part due to his improving health.”

While Buffalo Bills fans were aware that Watkins had a rib injury, no one knew that Watkins played through broken ribs. This makes his first half stats even more impressive as Watkins is first in receiving yards (590), fourth in receptions (38) and tied for first in touchdowns (5).
