Jerry Hughes Makes History with the Bills

The NFL credited Jerry Hughes with half a sack from Sunday's game against the Patriots. The sack put Hughes into elite company with the Bills.

The Buffalo Bills Media Relations Department sent out the following tweet this morning:

"The NFL has credited @Iam_jerryhughes & M. Lawson each w/ half a sack from Sunday. (Was originally Lawson/J. Wynn at 6:51 in the 4th quarter)"

The half sack moves Jerry Hughes up to 10 on the season. In his two years with the Bills, Hughes has 20 total sacks. He's the fourth Bills player to have 20 or more sacks in his first two seasons with Buffalo. The first three to do so were Bruce Smith (21.5), Bryce Paup (23.5) and Mario Williams (23.5).

Hughes moving up to ten sacks also put the Bills alongside the 1996-1997 San Francisco 49ers in the history books for having three players record double-digit sacks in back-to-back seasons. Last season, Hughes Mario Williams and Kyle Williams accomplished this feat. This season it was Hughes, Mario Williams and Marcell Dareus.

In two seasons, Hughes thrived as an OLB and DE with the Bills. As he prepares to enter free agency, there's no doubt that Hughes will be highly sought after by many NFL teams. Hopefully the Bills can find a way to bring Hughes back in 2015 and beyond.
