ILB Brandon Spikes to Test Free Agency

Brandon Spikes will test the free agent market. Based on Doug Whaley's comments at the NFL Scouting Combine, it'd be a surprise if Spikes returned to the Bills.

Brandon Spikes is most likely going to be one-and-done with the Buffalo Bills. At the NFL Scouting Combine, Bills GM Doug Whaley was asked about the linebacker's status with the team. Whaley's response wasn't too promising in terms of a return:

"I just talked to him today and the new staff sees a different role than maybe he does. I told him, go out there and see if you can get a team to see you the way you see yourself, if not, then come back and we can talk."

Whaley didn't sugarcoat his thoughts on Spikes. In Buffalo's 3-4 alignment, Spikes would likely be a backup and he may be looking for more money than the Bills are willing to pay. In 2014, Spikes played a total of 514 snaps with the Bills. He is still one of the best linebackers in the league in terms of run defense, but Buffalo tried to keep him off the field in passing situations. Spikes will be missed from a leadership standpoint. The linebacker was one of Buffalo's captains in 2014.
