Jerry Hughes No. 63 on NFL's Top 100 Players

Hughes became the second Bills player to be named to the NFL's Top 100 Players list.

The Buffalo Bills have had players on the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2015 in back-to-back weeks. Last week, Kyle Williams came in at No. 72 on the list. Tonight, Jerry Hughes made the list for the first time in his career at No. 63.

In 2014, Hughes became a full-time starter with the Bills. He finished the year with 53 total tackles, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles and one defensive touchdown. Pro Football Focus had Hughes as the 14th rated 4-3 defensive end in 2014. He was credited with 40 quarterback hurries and 32 defensive stops. Only four 4-3 defensive ends had more quarterback hurries than Hughes last season.

That said, Hughes is more than just a pass rusher. He truly worked on his game as a run defender and it showed last year. PFF had Hughes as their eighth rated 4-3 defensive end in terms of run defense.

Here is a look at the video the NFL produced on Hughes.

Hughes gets overlooked a bit in Buffalo because he plays alongside Mario Williams, Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams, but he absolutely deserves the recognition of being on the Top 100 Players list. His speed, strength, athleticism and pass-rush moves makes him one of the top pass rushers in the league. At only 26 years old, Hughes is just entering his prime. Based upon Hughes’ success in the last two seasons, that’s a pretty scary thought for opposing offenses.
